Welcome to our website where you’ll find lots of information about our mass times and the various things that are going on in the parish now as well as interesting features from our past. Being new in post it has certainly helped me get to up to speed with the history of the Catholic Church in Mid-Argyll.
I was born and raised in the Western Isles, living in Benbecula until my early twenties before leaving to work in Community Education in the central belt. Following this I trained as a Primary School teacher and spent 6 very happy years in Dundee.
Through my school work I was taking a more active role in the Church and this brought back thoughts towards the Priesthood which had initially surfaced many years previously. I received some great advice from Catholic friends, family and priests and entered The Beda College in Rome in 2015.
After completing my college studies in Rome in June 2019, I said arrivederci to the eternal city, and it was time to return home, with the small matter of my ordination on the horizon!
On the 9th of July, on the feast day of Our Lady of Aberdeen, I had the unforgettable experience of being ordained to the Priesthood by Bishop Brian. The fact that it was in my home parish of St Mary’s, Benbecula was very special to me. Bishop Brian informed me that that I was being appointed Assistant Priest of St Margaret’s Lochgilphead which also covered All Saints, Inveraray.
Mid-Argyll was not an area of the diocese I knew at all, so the fact that I was going to get to know new people and a new area excited me. A first appointment is, of course, also daunting and so this excitement was tempered by a little trepidation.
I thank Fr. David for the care he took to ensure that I had the best possible start to my life in Mid-Argyll, by taking the time to show me around and introduce me to people. I know it was a wrench for Fr David to leave this wonderful community and so the fact that he did this speaks volumes for him.
I extend this sincere thanks to you all, who from day one have shown me much love, kindness, patience and understanding as I begin my ministry.
It is my privilege to serve you here as priest and I’ll give every day of my life to help us journey together in hope and discover the joys that the Lord is waiting to give is.
