Bishop Brian’s Encouragement for The Easter Triduum

Brothers and sisters, on Holy Thursday we begin the, the shortest but greatest of the Church’s Seasons. Triduum comes from the Latin meaning ‘three days’. During the Easter Triduum we celebrate the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus which, over three days, won our redemption. On Holy Thursday evening we celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper and remember Christ’s prayer and betrayal at Gethsemane. On Good Friday we celebrate his death on the Cross. The Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night and Mass on Easter Sunday joyously celebrates the Resurrection. Although you cannot attend the Ceremonies in person this year your priest will still be celebrating them in your Church, many of them doing so by live stream. Please participate at home if you can. Here are some of the live streaming venues with relevant links:

The Divine Office is the official prayer book of the Church. The Morning and Night Prayers for each day of the Triduum can be accessed here. Liturgy of the Hours – TRIDUUM The prayers have been adapted for use at home and for recitation by a family group or by individuals.

This Triduum will be different for us all but if we enter fully into it, we will not be lacking any of God’s graces. As we celebrate the Paschal Mystery may we both experience the closeness of Christ to us as we carry our own crosses and be more convinced than ever that he is Triumphant. May God bless you and your families this Easter!
